I have 18 five minute conferences scheduled over the next five hours. Of course they are s paced just awkwardly enough that I won’t get anything productive done tonight . AMA.
Also, I scored this nice Bosch jig saw off of FB Marketplace for $25, to replace the one that !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! this weekend.

My kids shop teacher sits in the back of the room listening to country music and spontaneously yells at the kids to “get to work”. Marked my kid down to building something in robotics that actually worked vs what he was supposed to build per the instructions and in adequate supply of parts.

That’s a nice find for $25.
I like estate sales for tools as well - I’ve seen entire boxes of high quality vintage type hand tools go for 5 or 10$ cause they just want the stuff gone.

18 * 5 = 90 mins
that sounds like the worst way to burn 300 minutes

Are there any parents to whom you want to say, “Your kid really has no business even thinking of walking into a shop class. I basically just put him/her in the corner with crayons,
construction paper, and safety scissors.”

And will the parents show up?

Have you ever had the urge to tell a parent, “Look, let’s be honest. Your kid is a moron and should really be collecting shells down by the beach and living in a hut. ”

5 Minute conferences? How is that actually meaningful if you want to any depth with your concerns.

I’m going home early to a conference this evening, and my wife has already done two without me. Yesterday, the teacher apparently had several no-shows, we guess because of rain? So, they got to sit and chat for 40 min. or so instead of the quick 10 min.

I’ll probably get several no-shows, because of a foul-up in our scheduling software . Several of those conferences are for kids who rotated out three weeks ago.

Trippy!

Those parents never show up.

Pretty much yeah, but it gets better. My 6th and 7th grade classes rotate out every seven weeks. Somebody screwed up, and the software only let parents of Term A kids sign up ... those kids rotated out three weeks ago. Half of my five minute conferences, are for kids I don’t have anymore and may never see again.

Ugh ... I know that guy ... several of those guys, actually. I’d like to smash them all in the face with a shovel.

No, those parents never show up. It’s always a very pleasant evening. They tell me how much their kid loves my class, I tell them how great their kid is. It’s not a very productive evening, but it is pleasant.

Tomorrow I have 10 scheduled over 7 hours.

Most of them, yes. However, somebody screwed up big time when they set up the conference scheduling software. All my 6th and 7th grade conferences are for kids who rotated out of my class three weeks ago, and I may never see again. Those are going to be interesting convers ations.

Yeah, I jumped on that one. I got the impression the dude was a bit down on his luck.
I don’t go to many estate sales, but I’ve scored some good stuff there too. I love vintage hand tools.

I guess that is to be expected.

even better, so as soon as you get in to something...you have to pull away for a few minutes and get totally lost on what it was you needed to accomplish. THE DREAM

Yeah, there’s a reason those kids are those kids.

Pretty much, yeah!

Wife accidentally scheduled one for 11 while I was at work for kindergartener.
Next one is in 25 minuets for the second grader.
Not sure why my wife gets anxious before these. We have good kids.
I for one of the ridgid multi tools that vibrate, and got the jig saw attachment head. Worked good on some plexiglass. I mainly use the isolating (?) part of it. Cutting sheet metal ( metal roofing) with is is loud as fuck.
Are you excited for indy at COTA?

That’s acceptable. Just not coming seems wrong to me. Oh well, I’ll be on time. It’s not like there will be much time to talk about anything. Those kinds of talks we schedule specially.

Ah ours were a couple of weeks ago and were 15 minute conferences with 5 minutes in between. But we have a a much smaller school population so the expectation of personal interaction is there, in a number of cases the time slot was still too short. But we still have parents we never see, and the ones you get to chat with are the ones you don’t really “need” to chat with but they always come to parent teacher conference day.

Nice Jig,
We just went through Parent/Teacher this afternoon - thanks for doing these from the other side..

Thems the breaks. So far, 5 showed, 2 didn’t, and one extra bonus walk-in. The only thing I had to say to the no shows was, “You’re kids doing great, I really like having them.” Not exactly critical data.
![]() 10/25/2018 at 18:25 |

Yeah, that’s pretty much how it goes here too. There’s a reason “ those” kids are those kids.

Thanks, and you’re welcome :)
They’re always very pleasant .

I was wrong, it’s 13. Although one already didn’t show up.

Can you think of a good small job sprayer for indoor paint? Like if I wanted just to paint a couple of kitchen cabinet doors?

No idea, I’ve never used one.
